I met Colishia Dunbar shortly after she graduated from the University of South Carolina’s Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing, and from the very beginning, it was clear she was a force of nature. As a non-traditional student, she balanced the demanding pursuit of a Mechanical Engineering degree while working full-time and raising a family—an achievement that is nothing short of extraordinary. Her journey is proof that resilience, dedication, and self-belief can break barriers.
Since then, Colishia has remained deeply engaged with her alma mater, serving on the Young Alumni Board, mentoring students, sharing her experiences, and giving back in ways that go far beyond financial contributions. Her impact is why she was honored as the college’s Outstanding Young Alumna, and why she continues to inspire so many—including me.
COCOs Trust is the embodiment of who Colishia is—an unwavering advocate for self-care, financial empowerment, and opening doors in engineering for students and women. Having grown up in a small-town, first-generation college student myself, I know firsthand how transformative these opportunities can be. Colishia understands this better than anyone, and she is making sure others have the guidance, resources, and encouragement they need to succeed.
On a personal level, Colishia’s story has challenged me to dream bigger. Watching her achieve so much has inspired me to consider pursuing an engineering degree myself. If she could do it while balancing so much, then surely, I can, too. That’s the kind of impact she has—leading by example, showing others what’s possible, and lifting people up along the way.
COCOs Trust is not just an organization, it’s a reflection of Colishia’s heart, vision, and commitment to empowering others. Anyone who can be part of this journey will walk away not only more informed but truly transformed.

Since March 2016, I've had the pleasure of being an academic advisor, instructor, and program coordinator to many undergraduates at USC. Hundreds of students have visited my office over the years, but some have been truly unforgettable. Although I served as her advisor for only one semester in 2017, Colishia Wilson Dubar was one of those rare learners! When the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing (MCEC) launched the First-Generation Summer Start Scholars Program in July 2021, Colishia volunteered to share her personal journey with our first cohort of scholars. The purpose of the Summer Start experience is to develop the next generation of engineers and computing scientists, and I look forward to partnering with organizations like COCO's Trust to achieve that.

I had the opportunity to be mentored by Colishia during my senior year at the University of South Carolina as part of the Molinaroli College of Engineering & Computing’s Mentor in March program. She is a strong leader, and cares deeply about personal and professional growth. Thanks to her guidance, I was able to receive a job offer before graduation, in addition to learning invaluable career skills! Colishia is truly an outstanding engineer, and I’m so thankful to have had her as a mentor.
